We can’t be 100% sure this is the first ever pie eating contest at Harlan Days, but it is the first any of us can recall. Pie’s need to be dropped off at the Harlan Shelter House by 3pm on Friday July 31st. Judging, will begin at 4:30pm. Don’t bother bringing a fork, it’s official judging only. I asked. 😔

Joanie & Jenni B., mother and daughter pie eating judges for the 2026 Harlan Days Pie Eating Contest

Joanie & Jenni B. is a popular mother-daughter lifestyle and food influencer duo based right here in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They focus on documenting local restaurant reviews, travel experiences, and community events Fort Wayne Food Scene: They specialize in reviewing local eateries like Lexy’s Pizza, TOP’s Tavern, Chance Bar, and Bravas. They host community dining events like “Grab Grub” outings and act as guest judges for local culinary competitions, including area pie-baking contests.

🥧 Dirk Rowley – WANE 15’s night anchor

Longtime Fort Wayne broadcaster Dirk Rowley joined WANE 15 as evening anchor in August of 2018. Prior to joining WANE 15, Dirk hosted and produced a daily half hour TV talk show, which featured leaders of government, business, and non-profit groups. Before TV, Dirk spent 30 years in radio, much of that hosting perennial favorite “Majic in the Morning with Dirk and Jeannette” on WAJI-FM. The pair led the annual Riley Radiothon, raising roughly $1 million to help sick children. Dirk was often the only male reporting daily from the annual Vera Bradley Outlet sale.

The Homemade Pie Eating Contest Rules

This contest is open to bakers of all ages.

Pies must be entered in the name of person who made it.

Contestant may enter one pie.

Each pie must me made from scratch and based in a 9” – 10” pie plate/pan. Each pie must include a cover.

You may not use pre-made store bought crust or pre-made pie filling.

Enter a Pie

Bring your pie to the contest site, Harlan Shelter House by 3:00 pm as stated above. At this time your pie will be given an entry number, maintaining the confidentiality of the bakers.

Fill out the registration form.

Acknowledge that the entered pies become the property of the Harlan Days Festival. After judging the pies will be sliced and sold to the general public, proceeds will go to the Harlan Days Festival.

If you win you give permission to have your photo taken during the announcement ceremony and have it used for the Pie Contest and Festival promotional materials.

A copy of your pie recipe, on a 3×5 card or an 8 x 11 paper and a list of ingredients must be provided with the recipe name, contestant name and phone number at time of drop off.
